Ask your party guests to bring as many alarm clocks as they can, and set them all to go off at midnight (or earlier if you’re celebrating a faux midnight). When the alarms start ringing, bang pots and pans, toot horns, and make a general ruckus as you hug, kiss, and wish everyone a happy year. Then, send the kids to run around and silence the alarms. Break out more balloons for some fun and cheap party games for kids. Keep the kids busy and having fun playing balloon games with each other and staying off electronics. Make it feel extra special when the clock strikes midnight with a DIY balloon drop.
Give extended family members a recap of your past year and your contact information for the future. Everyone in your group or family gets a sticky note. They must write down the name of a famous person on the note. The celebrity you write down must be current, meaning they have made headlines within the recent year for one reason or another. Sticky notes get put on the back or forehead of the person to the writer’s left. Take turns asking the group questions to help you figure out the name that has been attached to you.

Enjoy late night scary movies after the clock strikes midnight. Perhaps start a new tradition this year or just do something different all together.
Get all of your neighbors to come outside at a certain time to sing or socially distance dance. Have gifts of pizza or other party foods delivered to those people that would normally come to your party. Decorate your house with quarantine-specific party decorations, which are available on Etsy and Amazon. New Year’s Eve will be different this year and that is okay. New Year’s Eve is still happening and you can still have fun and enjoy New Year’s Eve.

While you can’t enjoy each other’s food, you can see what was made and determine who was most creative and used all the ingredients. Show baby pictures of friends or family and everyone has to guess who it is.

Go outside to welcome in the new year in the moonlight, in a way that’s appropriate to where you live. You could yell in the new year if it won’t disturb your neighbors.
